Entry Requirements

  • Learners should have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy or equivalent.
  • A minimum 50-hour work placement in a school is required, with a recommended 16 hours weekly. The placement can be voluntary or unpaid work.
Method of Assessment This course is evaluated through a combination of written assignments and practical evaluations. Importantly, this course doesn’t have exams. Here’s an overview of how you will be assessed throughout the course:

  • Written Assignments: You will be required to submit written assignments that demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the course content. These assignments are marked internally by a qualified assessor. Constructive feedback and guidance will be provided by your personal tutor to help you improve and succeed.
  • Direct Observation: As part of the qualification, you must undergo direct observation in a suitable school environment. This will take place in a primary, secondary, or special school setting where the pupils are aged 5 and above, and studying at Key Stage 1 or higher. The observation will be conducted by an assessor to ensure that you are effectively applying your learning in a real-world setting.
  • Workplace Placement: Your placement must include supervision by a competent staff member within the school. This person will oversee your work-based learning outcomes and provide witness testimonies to validate your competence and effectiveness in the role.
  • Portfolio-Based Assessment: The course utilises a portfolio-based assessment approach, which includes:
