Entry Requirements

  • It is recommended that learners have a minimum of level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent. You do not need any prior qualifications. The qualification is suitable for learners of 16 years of age and above.
  • You need to obtain at least 50 hours of voluntary or paid work experience in a school or already be a teaching assistant.
  • This experience can be in a primary, secondary, or special school, but the pupils you work with must be aged 5+ and studying at Key Stage 1 or above. Additionally, you will need support from a school mentor who can confirm your competence and provide a testimonial of your abilities in line with qualification standards.

Method of Assessment This course is evaluated through a combination of written assignments and practical observations. Importantly, this course doesn’t have exams. Here’s an overview of how you will be assessed throughout the course:

  • Written Assignments: You will complete six written assignments that will be submitted to and reviewed by your tutor. These assignments are designed to help you apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, reflecting on real-world educational settings.
  • Classroom Observations: In addition to written work, classroom observations will form an essential part of your assessment. During your placement, a qualified staff member will observe and assess your performance in a school setting to provide practical, hands-on evaluation.
  • Work Placement: You must complete a work placement of at least 50 hours in a school environment, which could be in a primary, secondary, or special needs school. It’s important that the pupils you work with are aged 5 or older and studying at Key Stage 1 or above.
  • Supervision & Verification: During your placement, a qualified occupational-competence staff member must supervise you and sign off on witness testimonies. These testimonies will confirm that you have successfully met the work-based learning outcomes of the course.
  • Assessor Support: You will have support from assessors available via telephone, WhatsApp, online discussion forums, email, and web chats, ensuring that you have access to help whenever you need it.

  • This course can be completed in a matter of months or over the course of a year. Most learners will complete this course in 6-8 months.
